My two thoughts:
This Could be an easy Christmas present;
I did what any mother would do: GOT OUT OF THEIR WAY so they can wash dishes!!!! Pulling a chair against the sink, I escorted both boys to assume their positions. Then, I handed Jacob the tools he needed to ensure all of MY chores were done. Being the rule follower, Jacob would just think washing dishes was another standard that he would follow.
Joseph does EVERYTHING that his brother does, so I wouldn't even have to teach him about dishes...Jacob would teach him through his own actions. Since Joseph loves playing in the bubbles in the bathtub, I figured he'd love washing dishes too! Joseph would learn that washing dishes is fun, cool and entertaining. It was a Win-win situation. And yes, he watched his brother closely, and yes, he was entertained. While I was surprised that Joseph wasn't climbing in the sink or up the wall, I was surprised at his new talent. He made his own variation of the newly-appointed Kitchen Duty: Eat the Bubbles.
Twenty minutes later, I had two boys covered in bubbles (one particularly on the face), puddles of water on my counter, and some dirty dishes sitting on my drying rack. Only time will tell if I succeeded in teaching my boys some life skills! ;-)
