"This is a disaster! Momma, why didn't you make my lunch today?"
Before I answered, I stood there silently trying to figure out if he were joking or not. When I could see that he was about to start crying, I knew...no joke.
"Well, Bean, Ms. Carol told me not to make your lunch today. You have your Thanksgiving Day Feast...remember?"
"But, Momma, I have to eat, so why don't I have my lunch?"
"Jacob, your Thanksgiving Day Feast means that Ms. Carol is going to fix your lunch today, okay?"
Still not trusting my response, he got in the car. Once we pulled up to our drop-off spot and one of the teachers helped him out of the car, I double-checked my actions too.
"Ms. Monica, was I supposed to pack his lunch today?"
"Oh, no...we have our Thanksgiving Day Feast today, so he'll eat there."
Now, in the mix of his mother not making his lunch, was his father who had taken a day off of work to see his performance and attend the Thanksgiving Day Feast also. Jacob was FREAKING out about the notion that his father was going to go to school. The night before, Jacob had asked me if Greg could stay home with Joseph and only I go to school. I told him we would talk about it in the morning. As soon as his eyes opened, he was asking me if we could talk about "it." He was begging me not to let Greg go to his school. Thus, right when we were getting in the car that morning, Jacob ran back inside because "he forgot something." Greg told me later that Jacob ran into our bedroom and told Greg, "Daddy, Momma said you can stay at home today, okay, so see you later...good luck." (He always exits with a "Good Luck.")
So...back to the Feast...I sat (alone) in the audience and waited for the kids to enter. As soon as Jacob walked into the room, he almost broke his neck while he scanned the chairs next to me. Not seeing his father or his brother, he made his way up to the stage where the 4-year-olds performed a Thanksgiving Day play. Jacob was in the back row and had no major speaking part, so I really don't know what the big deal was. Perhaps he didn't want Greg and Ms Carol to speak to each other for fear of where the conversation might lead???

After the singing and the eating, Jacob and I went home and he was excited to tell his father all that he had done at school that day.
