Momma, the Entertainer????

Clearly I am not the person who Joseph looks to for entertainment. When he's hungry, he finds me in the kitchen and tugs at my leg.  When he needs a diaper changed, he holds his arms up to be held so that I may discover the contents of his diaper.  When he's tired, he puts his lovey in his mouth and rubs his head against my legs.  When he wants entertainment, he looks for Jacob or Daddy.  If neither of them is no where to be found, he stands in the middle of a room and waits for Momma to notice.  "I'm bored...can you help a brother out?"

Instead of doing the every-day activities of assembling blocks, playing with puzzles, or reading books, I did the unthinkable!  FINGER PAINT!  To me, it was nothing but a mess.  To him, it was a treasure.  At first I painted his hands to get some of the "mommy" masterpieces Jacob has from his school days...hand prints here, thumbprints there.  Then, I just let him do his own thing.  Like anything else that is set on his tray before him, he has to poke.  (Don't know where he gets that trait from!)  So, he dug into his treasure until the paper was a beauty, the hands were sticky and the tongue was a pretty hue of green.

It was too chilly outside to hose him down and make him clean again, so
the next stop:  kitchen sink filled with BUBBLES.  There the chair was placed in front of the sink (I'll regret this later since that will be his new way to discover new heights!)  While he was playing with the bubbles, trying to get IN the bubbles and putting those in his mouth too, I was able to scrub him down until he was squeaky clean again.

After the morning of painting, eating paint and bubbles, I found Joseph with his lovey in his mouth and his head against my legs.  I had succeeded in entertaining him...now I had to clean the paint off of the table, chair, floor and soak up the water that was around the sink. It was all worth it though...I can be an entertainer too!  I rock! Now, where is that lovey for me to cling to because I'm exhausted?!
