Jacob's school participated in their annual Trike-a-Thon to help raise money for St. Jude. Since I am a full-time mom right now, I wanted to witness this event this year. The kids who supported financially were allowed to bring their own bikes/trikes from home to ride along the "Trike Course." Being a new mother of two and thinking of mere survival skills, I could only think of one way I was going to get the bike across the parking lot, down the long hallway of classrooms, through the kitchen area and into the gym..while monitoring Jacob and pushing Joseph in a stroller. Oh, did I mention I had a full cup of coffee in my hand too? So, yup, Jacob got to be the cool cat of the school and ride his bike all the way to the school gym. He might have enjoyed that ride to and from the gym more so than the actual "Trike Course."

The Course had a make-shift car wash (a tailgating/beach tent frame with streamers hanging down) and a gas pump station. Jacob definitely had the biggest bike on the course, so he Ruled the Road. The only time he wasn't riding was when he was pumping gas, teaching others how to pump gas, and helping out a classmate who had fallen off her bike (after Jacob had knocked her over).
Jacob definitely enjoyed his morning showing off for his friends in front of his momma and brother. As Jacob's friends passed Joseph and me, they would ask, "Jacob's mom, is that Baby Joe?" So apparently, Jacob likes to talk about his brother at school! One girl even said, "Jacob's mom, I like Baby Joe's pacifier."
Lessons learned: I can get both boys to school on my own with a cup of coffee. I am no longer "Penne Leier" I am now and forever will be "Jacob's Mom"..."Joseph's Mom, " and you know...I like my new name.
I love this! Since I work at Luke's school, you'd think they would call me "Ms. Mary Helen" like my students do, but noooo I'm still Luke's mom!!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny...and typical. It's all about the boys, isn't it?!
